Classy and utilitarian
For people who need a classy and elegant SUV that can be sustainable for family rides and daily urban commuting, the Toyota Avanza is a recommended car in the Philippines. I have been personally driving it for a year now and I am nothing short of impressed by the exceptional experience it offers with superior efficiency and utility. The engine is powerful and exceptionally fuel-efficient while the interiors are spacious and top-end with a range of modern amenities and features that makes for great convenience.

Truly utilitarian
The Toyota Rush is definitely one of the most utilitarian and affordable packages when it comes to an SUV in the Philippines. I have been driving it for almost a year and a half now, and it has been a truly satisfying vehicle in all aspects. The high ground clearance and the rugged yet sophisticated appeal make it perfect for urban commute and some light off-roading as well. The 1.5L inline 4 engine is pretty powerful as well as efficient. The interiors are very spacious, comfortable, and luxurious with a really well-designed cabin and dash.

Comfortable seating: Despite its compact size, the Avanza can accommodate 7 passengers on all 3 rows. Toyota has cleverly engineered Avanza’s seating arrangement
Spacious 3rd row: The Avanza’s 3rd row is spacious to accommodate 3 adults row can be folded down to yield more space to carry luggage
Stylish looks: With the recent facelift, the Avanza now looks more stylish. The front grille is now bigger and bolder and houses the bi-headlamps
Nice features: The Avanza has a touchscreen infotainment unit and automatic climate control that makes the car stand out among its peers

Great visibility: The Rush’s wide windscreen and placement of pillars lead to great visibility for the driver. Even the windows are wider than most crossovers.
Efficient climate control: The automatic air-conditioning of the Rush is great. With rear air vents, the entire cabin gets cooled fast.
Tall body: The maximum ground clearance of the Rush is 220m. This helps the car to negotiate bad roads much better than its rivals. The Rush is also nicely balanced.
Spacious: With a wheelbase of 2,685mm, the Rush is a rather spacious car. It comes with a lot of usable cubby holes and storage space.

Things we don’t like
Staid interior: Avanza’s cabin looks rather plain as against its competitors. The layout is too simple and lacks a design-theme
Bland profile: Except for the front part, Toyota hasn’t changed anything in the Avanza’s exterior. The car looks bland when viewed in profile
Unexciting engine: The 1.5-liter petrol engine doesn’t offer any excitement. Fully loaded with all 7 passengers and cargo, the performance becomes really sluggish
Minimum safety features: The Toyota Avanza comes with just antilock braking and 2 airbags. It doesn’t have traction control or parking cameras
- Read Less
Average powertrain: The engine is underpowered. The car struggles while going uphill and cruising down the highway. Though an MPV, the Rush is mostly for city driving
Limited legroom: The Rush is a 7-seater car. But when all seats full, the legroom becomes limited. The third row particularly becomes uncomfortable for adult passengers
Plain interior: The car’s cabin is rather plain compared to its rivals. The instrument panel looks boring and the subtle exterior styling isn’t replicated in the cabin.
Sluggish AT: The AT is not immediately responsive leading to a delayed torque output
