Isuzu D-Max Overview
Out of the very short lineup of Isuzu Philippines, the D-Max lifestyle pickup truck has carved a good fan following for itself as a macho-looking truck with robust underpinnings, in a typical Japanese engineering fashion. The Isuzu D-Max is being offered in the Philippines both as a utilitarian heavy-duty pickup as well as an urban lifestyle pickup and is well known for its good reputation as a reliable vehicle.
Isuzu D-Max History
The Isuzu D-Max is one of the very few modern vehicles of this generation which is having quite long life cycles as a product. The facelifted version of the first generation Isuzu D-Max, which was already launched in other global markets in 2007, was brought to the Philippines in 2011, as the first-ever version of the D-Max here in the country. The Isuzu D-Max, at that time, was projected as a potent load carrier that can sometimes be used to ferry people as well, with its dual-cab design.
By the time when the first generation Isuzu D-Max was being launched in the Philippines, the world had already started getting the all-new second-generation model, which was eventually launched in the Philippines in 2013, thus replaced its predecessor. This new model of the D-Max appeared larger with its enhanced dimensions, upped premium appeal in and out, and a new set of engines. This Isuzu D-Max has received a couple of facelifts to date, with the latest one introducing newer and more premium variants that come with modern features, thus projecting it as a new generation lifestyle pickup truck.
Isuzu D-Max Highlight
The Isuzu D-Max is available in the Philippines with an extensively long list of variants and options to choose from. The range starts with a stripped-out LT 4x4 MT variant, which has a 3.0-litre four-cylinder diesel engine under its hood, which makes 190 PS of power and 450 Nm of torque and is available solely with a 6-speed manual transmission. Then comes the LS 4x2 MT and LS 4x2 AT, which is offered with a smaller 1.9-litre four-cylinder diesel engine, which produces 150 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque, and is being offered with 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic gearboxes respectively. The LS 4x2 MT is also offered with the same 3.0-litre diesel engine with a manual gearbox as the lower-spec LT 4x4 MT. Then come the LS-A 4x2 AT as well as LS 4x4 MT, both of which are powered again by 3.0-litre diesel engine, with automatic and manual gearbox options respectively. The range-topping LS-E 4x4 AT variant is the more feature-rich and purely lifestyle-oriented pickup and gets the 3.0-litre diesel engine with an automatic gearbox as standard.
Isuzu D-Max Safety
The new range-topping LS-E variant of the Isuzu D-Max not only packs in an extensive list of comfort and convenience features but also has a very impressive list of safety features on offer. The pickup, in its best version, is equipped with features like front, side, curtain, and knee airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, brake override system, electronic stability control, traction control, hill start assist, hill descent control, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency brake, turn assist, mis-application mitigation, adaptive cruise control with manual speed limiter, automatic high beam, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera.
Isuzu D-Max Fuel Consumption
The new generation 3.0-litre diesel engine of the Isuzu D-Max has been engineered to extract a good amount of torque as well as fuel efficiency, with the maximum fuel economy of the engine being promised at 13.1 km/l in overall driving conditions.
New Isuzu D-Max Fuel Consumptions
- Isuzu D-Max 2021: 13.1 KM/L
Used Isuzu D-Max Fuel Consumptions
- Isuzu D-Max 2020: 13.1 KM/L
Isuzu D-Max Pros and Cons
Isuzu D-Max Pros
- Butch exterior design – The Isuzu D-Max, especially in its top-spec LS-E variant, looks quite butch and very attractive with all the modernity on offer.
- Torquey diesel engine – The 3.0-litre diesel engine suits the macho character of the Isuzu D-Max pretty effectively, with an ample amount of torque down the rev range as well as mid-range.
- Reliable mechanicals – The mechanical underpinnings of the Isuzu D-Max are known to last long years, which have given the pickup a reputable image of a reliable vehicle.
Isuzu D-Max Cons
- Engine refinement – The diesel engine sounds harsh when revved hard, which is a sign of low refinement levels.
- The steering feels heavy at lower speeds – The old-school hydraulic power steering of the Isuzu D-Max feels heavy and cumbersome to steer in lower city traffic speeds.
