4 Reasons Why Your Car Should Have the Proper Tire Pressure

Car tire

Cars are one of the most convenient means of transportation. For most people, these machines are considered as the reliable steed to get to and from any destination. This is the reason why car owners should take good care of their vehicles through regular maintenance, but that's not the case for every individual.

Car maintenance is taken for granted by some and one of the things that's often overlooked is checking whether the vehicle has the proper tire pressure. Proper tire pressure can give you several positive things and here are four reasons why you should routinely check it.

1. Safer drive

You’ll have a safer drive when your car has the proper tire pressure. Chances of experiencing a blowout or a flat tire while you’re driving is reduced if your tires have the right air pressure. You should also understand that underinflated tires increase braking distance and lessens the responsiveness of the car's steering wheel. As such, proper tire pressure plays a major role in ensuring your safety when you're driving on the road.

2. More comfortable ride

There's a good chance that your ride will be bumpy if your tires are overinflated. You wouldn't want to be riding along the dilapidated roads of EDSA on a car that has overinflated tires as that could trigger the Bonamine alert for some. It's also more difficult to stabilize or control the vehicle when it has overinflated tires. Driving straight on your lane and through corners could be a bit difficult when your tires are overinflated.

3. Better fuel economy

Keeping your tires properly inflated will enable your car to achieve better fuel economy. The United States' Department of Energy (DOE) says your car's fuel consumption will improve by up to three percent if it has the proper tire pressure.

4. Maximize tire's tread life

You can maximize your tire's tread life when you regularly monitor if it has its proper air pressure. Underinflated tires can incur damage to its sidewalls, which would eventually lead to a blowout.  Overinflated tires, on the other hand, tend to have irregular wear, which means that some parts of the tire are already worn out. Do not take your car's tires for granted.

You should regularly check it every two weeks or at least once a month. As mentioned, tires that have the proper air pressure will lead to multiple effects such as improved safety, more comfortable drive, better fuel consumption, and cost-efficiency.
