Akio Toyoda to sit as Toyota Chairman

Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC) announced that Akio Toyoda will sit as the firm’s Chairman of the Board of Directors from April 1, 2023.

Toyoda, who is currently the President and Member of the Board of Directors, Operating Officer (OO), and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) will take the place of Takeshi Uchiyamada. Uchiyamada will then assume the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Further, Koji Sato, who currently is TMC’s Chief Branding Officer, Lexus International Co. President, and Gazoo Racing Company President, will be promoted to TMC President, OO, and CEO.

Per the Japanese automotive brand, the change in leadership is part of TMC’s intention to implement changes in its executive structure.

“The formal appointment of members of the Board of Directors will be formalized after approval at the 119th Ordinary General Shareholders’ Meeting. The formal assignment of board members with specific titles, and the appointment of board members with the legal status to represent TMC (representative directors), will be made at the board of directors meeting following the 119th Ordinary General Shareholders’ Meeting. The resignation of board members leaving their current posts will become official on the day of the 119th Ordinary General Shareholders’ Meeting,” Toyota said in a press release.
