Angkas widens partnership reach, taps Pasay for free rides, shields

Motorcycle taxi mobile app Angkas continues to expand its reach in providing free and safe mobile for health care workers (HCW) with its recent partnership with the city government of Pasay.

Last Friday, Angkas Chief Transport Advocate George Royeca made the commitment to Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano to provide free rides and shields for the city’s medical frontliners during the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ).

Aside from Rubiano and Royeca, officials who attended the event include Pasay City Administrator Atty. Dennis Acorda; OIC for Tricycle and Pedicab Licensing Ace Sevilla; and OIC for Traffic & Parking Arturo Fortaleza.

Nagpapasalamat kami sa Angkas headed by George Royeca,” Rubiano said. “Talagang napakalaking tulong po nito lalo na sa aming frontliners na nagseserbisyo para sa minamahal nating taga-Pasay. Syempre nahirapan tayo sa transportation at isa itong sagot para makapasok ang mga empleyado at maibigay nila ang tamang paglilingkod sa ating mga mamamayan.

For his part, Royeca said that they are happy to serve the health workers in Pasay.

“It is an honor to serve our medical frontliners in the city of Pasay which holds a strategic location in the NCR. These HCWs work in hospitals which are near the bus terminals and airports which many Filipinos use to journey to other places in the capital, if not the country. Angkas bikers will be making it easier for them to go to work, while our shields will add an extra level of protection for HCWs who own and use their own bikes.”

Pasay has declared 40 barangays as COVID-free. The city has a total of 210 barangays.

Aside from free transportation and shields, Angkas also said that their bikers will also double as contact tracers upon the request of the Pasay City mayor.

“To help in our country’s efforts with contact tracing, certain Angkas bikers will also be trained and deployed to help in this aspect,” Royeca noted.

Angkas will be in close coordination with the Pasay City government for the assignment of bikers who will give free rides to medical frontliners, specifically those in Pasay City General Hospital and the Philippine Air Force General Hospital.

Last Friday’s partnership was third of Angkas-initiated series of partnerships forged with various cities in Metro Manila.

Angkas x Pasig

First was last week with Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, followed by the one with Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto a few days later.

The motorcycle ride-hailing app has also collaborated with the National Task Force against COVID, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Philippine National Police (PNP).
