Bentley Mulliner Bacalar: Luxurious Yet Sustainable Coachbuilding
Bentley is all set to create a tidal wave at the Geneva Motor Show this March 3, as its in-house customization shop Mulliner will display a new limited-edition vehicle dubbed as the ‘future of coachbuilding.’
The car, billed as the Bentley Mulliner Bacalar, is reportedly handbuilt by Bentley Mulliner, the oldest coachbuilder in the world. Inspired by Bentley’s Centenary Concept Car, the EXP 100 GT, the Bacalar is described to represent “Grand Touring at its most exhilarating,” a fact magnified by the use of “sustainable and ethically-sourced materials.”
The British luxury marque has been on a sustainability streak as of late, beginning with Bentley’s latest experimental design, the EXP 100 GT, which houses multiple technologies while boasting a wide variety of sustainable elements.
The leather hides used in its cars are now ethically sourced from Northern European bulls, and were environmentally sourced as by-products of the meat industry.
After recently achieving the title of UK’s first carbon neutral luxury automotive factory, Bentley elevated its environmental efforts further with its new recycling system that greatly reduced its consumption of water and energy in its operations, and consequently lowering its carbon in the process.
Regarding its sustainable future, the British carmaker has this to say: “Bentley sees a future driven by new technologies, new materials, new fuels and new skills, in the pursuit of a radically different luxury world. Concept cars such as the Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e and the new Bentley EXP 100 GT have always been a part of this journey: an opportunity to gauge public opinion, to test new ideas and to refine the brand’s roadmap for the years to come.”
“Bentley’s second century will see the company moving towards an all-electric product range, from grand tourers, sedans and SUVs to entirely new kinds of cars. An intelligent curation of technology, Artificial Intelligence, engineering, craft and natural elements will transform every journey,” the carmaker added.
The Bentley Mulliner Bacalar will be revealed at Geneva at 8.30am GMT on 3rd of March 2020. Bentley customers can be amongst the first to know about Mulliner Bacalar and receive exclusive Bentley content through the Bentley Network app.
