Brembo Flexira holds the horses of Mustang Mach-E Performance

Brembo said that it will supply the Flexira aluminum brake calipers
for the all-electric Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and GT Performance Edition.

The Flexira's unique shade of red with the brand logo will peek through the 20-inch machined-face aluminum wheels of the Mach-E, Brembo added.

That said, the brake caliper isn't all for show. Brembo said that the Flexira is specially engineered to fit vehicles with smaller wheel profiles, such as compact cars, SUV, and electric vehicles (EVs) for improved rolling resistance.

The caliper is designed for use in compact spaces, while "maintaining the high performance and functionality typical of a Brembo fixed caliper."

This compact caliper is a four-piston one with 44mm-diameter pistons paired with Brembo 385mm ventilated rotors.

Brembo assures the pads meet 2021 and future 2025 California and Washington regulations prohibiting the use of copper in brake pads and have a 78cm square surface.

The aluminum caliper is manufactured using Brembo’s gravity cast technology. Once the aluminum shell is cast, steel inserts or “sleeves” are added which increase the mechanical strength of the overall component.

These cylindrical inserts can be seen on the front surface of the calipers where the logo is applied.

The brake system works alongside the Mach-E GT Performance Edition’s MagneRide Damping System, which is said to provide excellent stopping power, reduced rolling resistance. The reduced rolling resistance increases the car's range.

“We are glad to collaborate with Ford Motor Company on the next Mustang Mach-E model,” Brembo North America President and CEO Dan Sandberg said.

“The Flexira offers significant reduction in mass compared to typical cast iron floating calipers. This significant reduction of the vehicle’s unsprung weight combined with the low drag advantage of the caliper design contributes to increased battery life... through a reduction in rolling resistance," Sandberg explained.

He also added that with the Flexira, spirited drivers will be assured even when going from 0-100kph in (claimed) 3.5 seconds with the Mach-E GT Performance Edition.

Brembo said its relationship with Ford dates back to the 1996 when Brembo supplied the front brake discs for the Mustang Cobra. Currently, Brembo brakes stop the Mustang Mach 1, Shelby GT, and Shelby GT500.

Brembo carbon brakes are used by the Ford GT super car and its race-bred brethren, which won the Le Mans with 19 wins and 23 pole positions.
