Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) Implements New Toll Rates

The Cavite-Laguna Expressway (CALAX) has changed its toll rates, so commuters who regularly use it should take note of the following changes:

  • PHP 47.00 for Class 1 vehicles (for cars)
  • PHP 95.00 for Class 2 vehicles (for minivans and buses)
  • PHP 143.00 for Class 3 vehicles (for large truck and trailers)

The first 10-kilometer segment of CALAX was partially opened to the public last October 30, 2019 for Undas. It started its round-the-clock operations last December 21, 2019--just in time for the Christmas season.

CALAX has served a daily target vehicle volume of around 6,000 since the time of its opening. It has become an alternative route for commuters who are going to and from Binan and Santa Rosa in Laguna, Silang in Cavite, and also Tagaytay.

The PHP35.42 billion or US $787 million CALAX is a four-lane, 47-kilometer long road that will connect CAVITEx in Kawit, Cavite to SLEx-Mamplasan Interchange. Each lane has a width of 3.5m, while the inner and outer shoulder widths are 1m and 2.5m, respectively. The right-of-way (ROW) width of the expressway will be 60m.

CALAX started its construction in June 2017.  Its construction was awarded to Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC), with DM Consunji tasked to build the Laguna portion of the Cavite-Laguna road project. It was built under the Build-Transfer-Operate (BTO) scheme, with the cooperation period expected to run for 35 years (together with design and construction).

CALAX, which currently has the biggest project cost among the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) projects, is expected to ease traffic congestion in the Cavite-Laguna regions. This include Governor's Drive, Tagaytay-Santa Rosa Road, and Aguinaldo Highway. It is also expected to lessen travel time between CAVITEX and SLEX from the current 90 minutes of travel to an estimated 45 minutes.

The interchanges are located at the following areas: Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay, Aguinaldo Highway, Laguna Blvd., Kawit, Technopark, Silang, Governor’s Drive, and Daang Hari.
