In particular, the roadwork in San Lorenzo involves widening of the one-kilometer San Miguel-Constancia-Cabano-Igcawayan Road along Guimaras Central Road. From two lanes, the roadway will be upgraded to four.

Additionally, the P54-million project includes the construction of slope protection, as well as installation of metal guard rails, and thermoplastic pavement markings as safety features.

As for the town of Nueva Valencia, the 789-lineal meter portion of the Guimaras Circumferential Road is also being widened to enhance mobility for residents of barangays Lapaz, Salvacion, Cabalagnan, and Lucmayan.

With a reported cost of P39.6 million, the project also involves construction of concrete headwalls, drainage structures, slope protection, and asphalt overlay.

Per DPWH Region 6 Director Nerie Bueno, the central road serves as a primary route going to various tourist destinations in the province. Hence, the road upgrade is expected to boost local economic and tourism development.

“When completed, these widened road portions will be able to accommodate larger volumes of traffic, improving transportation for various local communities in the island province,” Bueno commented.

The road widening in San Lorenzo is already 40 percent complete while the one in Nueva Valencia is 79.8 percent complete.

The paved section connecting to Guimaras Circumferential Road will also support local agricultural development by enhancing the delivery of farm products. The road widening and concreting projects were undertaken by DPWH Guimaras District Engineering Office.
