MANILA: Ford Philippines recalled select versions of its well-known nameplates from the 2000s and 2010s.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many hours will it take to replace defective Takata airbag inflators?

Ford says that its dealerships can replace defective Takata airbag inflators from two to three hours.
  • Which models are listed in Ford Philippines’ re-issued service program?

Models listed in Ford Philippines’ re-issued service program include the Ford Ranger 2011, Everest 2006 to 2014, Ranger 2004 to 2011, Everest 2006 to 2014, and Mustang 2010 to 2014.
  • According to the American car brand’s local arm, the move is tied to faulty Takata airbags, an issue that has affected numerous automakers worldwide for more than two decades.

On Ford Philippines recall-dedicated page the company explained that the Takata airbag systems could have defective inflators. These tend to go bad due to degraded propellant material, which Ford stated, is the result of high temperatures and humidity.

These deteriorating factors are common characteristics of the Philippine weather.

Further, the firm noted in its website that the degraded propellant inside the inflator can also cause ruptures. The said ruptures may be able to send inflator parts flying “towards vehicle occupants,” causing serious injury of even death.

“The safety of our customers is absolute priority,” Ford Customer Service Division for the Philippines M Pushparaj said.

“That’s why we remain proactive in reminding affected owners to book an appointment with their Ford dealer immediately to ensure a safe and worry-free experience on the road,” Pushparaj added.
