Hennessey Reveals Venom F5's 1,600+ HP Twin Turbo V8

Hennessey Venom F5

In November 2017, Hennessey Special Vehicles unveiled its next-generation hypercar in the Hennessey Venom F5. For the Venom F5, Hennessey Special Vehicles had one goal in mind: "to be the absolute fastest road car on earth." Such a feat requires a prodigious amount of power and at that time, the Venom F5's engine was still being developed

Nearly a year later and Hennessey Special Vehicles is finally finished with it as it has brought the Venom F5's powerplant to the 2018 staging of The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering in Carmel, California.

With the help of Shell and Pennzoil, Hennessey Special Vehicles began development of the Venom F5's engine two years ago. From the onset, the plan was to create a twin-turbo V8 that will produce over 1,600 hp, and it seems the partnership has done just that.

"We think the engine details shared at The Quail are of major interest to all those who have been following the progress of the Venom F5," said Hennessey Special Vehicles founder John Hennessey. "With a custom-built Hennessey 7.6-liter Twin Turbo V8 engine capable of achieving more than 1,600 bhp at 7,200 rpm (at 24 psi boost pressure) and Shell and Pennzoil powering and protecting this powerhouse, we're feeling confident in our quest to set new records in 2019."

The custom-built engine of the Venom F5 has a billet aluminum machined engine block with steel cylinder sleeves that can produce over 1,700 Nm of torque @ 4,400 rpm, a 9.3:1 compression ratio, and precision ball bearing twin turbos with billet compressor wheels, stainless steel turbo headers, and a dry sump oiling system.

The monster twin-turbo V8 of the Venom F5 consumes Shell V-Power NiTRO+ Premium gasoline while lubricating its parts is Pennzoil Platinum 10W-60 Full Synthetic motor oil.

"Our relationship with John and the Hennessey Special Vehicles team is mutually rewarding. Our products are tested to their performance limits in the new engine designed especially for Venom F5 and will help the Hennessey team to break more records. This extreme performance testbed allows Shell to progress our own innovations as we support this hypercar in its move to next level status," said Carlos Maurer, president, Shell Lubricants Americas.

According to Hennessey Special Vehicles, of the 24 Hennessey Venom F5s it will produce, it already has 15 confirmed orders for the next-gen hypercar.
