Honda Europe announces hybrid Civic, 3 new electrified models

In a recent press release, Honda announced a Euro-spec hybrid Civic. The all-new Civic e:HEV will be released in the European market and will complete the brand’s commitment to electrify its entire mainstream European automobile range by the end of 2022.

  • When will the Honda Civic e:HEV be made available?

The Euro-spec Civic e:HEV will be available later this year.
  • What are the three new electrified offerings from Honda?

The three new electrified models are the e:Ny1 Prototype, a full-hybrid SUV, and the all-new CR-V.
  • “The completion of our electrification goal marks a significant moment for Honda in Europe. However, we’re not resting on our laurels. We are already well advanced with our plans to further expand the choice of battery-electric and hybrid vehicles for our customers and increase our offering in the fast-growing B- and C-SUV segments. The new models we will introduce in 2023 will set the course for the next generation of electrified Honda cars, all retaining the engaging driving dynamics, comfort, and exceptional usability to which our customers have become accustomed,” said Honda Motor Europe Senior Vice President Tom Gardner.

The hybrid Civic is the latest car to be offered exclusively with e:HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) technology, joining the brand’s other electrified models like the Jazz, Jazz Crosstar, CR-V, HR-V, and Honda e.

Power will come from Honda’s e:HEV powertrain, which combines a power-dense lithium-ion battery, two compact, powerful electric motors, and a newly developed 2.0-liter direct injection DOHC i-VTEC gasoline engine. Targets have been set for the Civic e:HEV which involves reaching CO2 emissions of less than 110 grams per kilometers which is less than 5 l/100km with a maximum motor output of 135kW and 315Nm of torque.

The hybrid Honda Civic will bring new standards of visibility and comfort which are coupled with impressive dynamics, efficiency, and an unrivaled suite of advanced safety technologies. Expected launch date is sometime in autumn (September to November.

In addition, Honda announced three other electrified models which will expand its electrified product lineup in 2023. Included is an all-electric B-segment SUV (previewed as the e:Ny1 Prototype), a C-segment full hybrid SUV, and the all-new CR-V, which will be available with both full hybrid and plug-in hybrid powertrain options for the first time in Europe.
