If anything, the Covid-19 epidemic is forcing car makers to be creative with their new releases. While most companies decided to move their launches at a later date, there are those who persist, like Kia, which opted to reveal the new 2021 Sorento via Facebook, and Hyundai, recently launching its all-new 2021 Elantra sedan via livestream on YouTube. Last March 17, Hyundai debuted the the all-new 2021 Elantra during its world premiere event at The Lot Studios in West Hollywood, California, and broadcasted the occasion live on the popular streaming service. The 2021 Elantra highlights Hyundai’s latest design direction, including a Sensuous Sportiness design identity, hybrid electric vehicle technology, and segment-first wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. The car also provides exciting driving dynamics and the most progressive in-car experience in its class.

Known as the Avante in the Korean domestic market the new-generation Elantra—now on its seventh—is built on Hyundai’s latest vehicle platform, resulting in a model that’s longer and wider than ever before—gaining 2.2 inches in overall length,  0.8 inch in its wheelbase, and one inch in overall width. The roofline is also lower than the outgoing model, while the front cowl point is moved back almost two inches, giving the car a sportier stance. Hyundai describes the new Elantra as a four-door coupe, but despite the connotation, most key interior dimensions increased, according to the South Korean carmaker.

The new Elantra is also the first generation to include a hybrid powertrain, combining a 1.6-liter GDI Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine with a permanent-magnet electric motor that delivers 32 kW powered by a lithium-ion-polymer battery with 1.32 kWh of capacity positioned under the rear seats. Both systems combine give the Elantra Hybrid 139 hp and 264.4 Nm of torque. As for the rest of the Elantra lineup, these come equipped with 2.0-liter MPI Atkinson Cycle engine that churns out 147 hp and 179 Nm of torque.

The highlight of the cabin is certainly the two available 10.26 inch screens all under one piece of glass, providing the driver with different views including utility, driver assistance and navigation. The optional infotainment system displays a wide variety of useful information across the split touchscreen configuration.

Of course, the new Hyundai Elantra comes with a barrage of safety features, dubbed as the SmartSense Safety suite, which includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) with Pedestrian Detection, Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Following Assist (LFA), High Beam Assist (HBA), and Driver Attention Warning (DAW). Hyundai begins production of the 2021 Elantra in the fall in Ulsan, Korea and at Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama, with sales of the car beginning in the fourth quarter. Pricing and other purchase details will be announced closer to the release date.
