Jacob Ang steps up as BMW PH president

MANILA: Jacob Ang now serves as the president of SMC Asia Car Distributors Corporation (SMCACD), distributor of BMW vehicles in the Philippines.

In a statement, the San Miguel Corporation (SMC) subsidiary announced the young executive succeeded Spencer Yu last Monday (September 1). The appointment came after the latter stepped down from the position after a seven-year stint.

To the unaware, Jacob is the child of Ramon Ang, chairman and chief executive officer of San Miguel Corporation (SMC) — SMCACD’s mother company.

According to the SMC, the younger Ang steps into the role at a time “when demand for premium vehicles in the Philippines is growing, alongside rising interest in electrified mobility.”

“Having been actively involved in the company’s efforts to modernize operations and enhance the customer experience, he is well-prepared to lead the brand into its next chapter of growth,” the firm noted.

The new executive’s father — who serves as the SMCACD chairman — is confident on the former’s competences, saying his leadership and fresh perspective will help further bolster the brand’s presence in the country.

“We have built a strong foundation over the years, and with his energy and vision, I am confident he will take the brand further and create even more value for our customers,” the Ang patriarch claimed.

Meanwhile, the younger Ang expressed enthusiasm over the position.

“This is an exciting time for our industry and for BMW in the Philippines,” said Jacob Ang. “My priority is to build on what we do best — drive innovation in how we serve our customers, and strengthen BMW’s position as the leader in premium mobility in the country.”
