  • What penalties will hot-headed motorists face should the Anti-Road Rage Act be enacted to law?

Should the Anti-Road Rage Act pass into law, violators can face imprisonment, a hefty fine, and revocation of his or her license.
  • Who filed the Anti-Road Rage Act?

The Anti-Road Rage Act was filed by San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan Representative Florida Robes.
  • Per San Jose Del Monte, Bulacan Representative Florida Robes, the Anti-Road Rage Act aims to impose penalties on erring motorists, which in turn should make our roads safer for all users.

Road rage, as defined by the proposed bill, is the aggressive, hostile, or violent behavior in traffic or on the road by a motorist, which may include mild to moderate screaming, wild gesturing at others, cursing or using bad language, physical attack and other attempt thereof, reckless driving, and any kind of threat or intimidation, or any use of force.

Should the Anti-Road Rage Act be enacted into law, a violator will be penalized with imprisonment of no less than six months (but not more than six years) and a fine of no less than P250,000.

Additionally, a person found in violation of the Anti-Road Rage Act will have his or her license revoked and shall not be eligible for renewal in the next five years, following the road rage episode.

The submission of the proposed bill might have been spurred by the alarming incidents of road rage in the country. Not too long ago, a retired cop and a cyclist figured in a road rage where the former was seen pulling out a gun — and racking the slide of his firearm.

Further, two other motorcycle riders figured in an altercation where a firearm was also involved. The involved parties were found to be members of the force: one is a Police Staff Sargeant and the other identified himself as a member of the Intelligence Service of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
