A lawmaker is eyeing to give persons with disability (PWD) a 20-percent discount on tollways and expressways.

  • Who filed House Bill 5272?

Quezon City Representative Marvin Rillo filed the proposed legislation.
  • How can a PWD avail of the proposed privilege per HB 5272?

As suggested in the proposed measure, a PWD can avail of the 20-percent discount by presenting and submitting a copy of his or her PWD identification card (ID) to the toll operator when applying for the RFID. The vehicle should also be under the PWD’s name.
  • Through House Bill (HB) 5272, Quezon City Representative Marvin Rillo seeks to expand the benefits of disabled individuals as amendments to the Republic Act (RA) 7277 — otherwise known as “Magna Carta for Disabled Persons, and for Other Purposes.”

Should the proposal be enacted into law, a person with a disability shall be entitled to a 20-percent discount on “public utility buses or jeepneys (PUB/PUJ), taxis, Asian utility vehicles (AUV), shuttle services, skyways and expressways the toll fees of which are paid through radio frequency identification devices (RFID) or similar systems, and pubic railways, including Light Rail Transit (LRT), Metro Rail Transit (MRT), and Philippine National Railways (PNR).”

To avail of the privilege, the vehicle must be registered in the name of the disabled person and the person with disability will have to present and submit a copy of his or her PWD identification card (ID) to the toll operator when applying for the RFID.
