LTFRB Now Allows Hatchbacks as TNVS Units

After the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA) issued an order to fast track the issuance of Certificates of Public Convenience (CPC), the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) will now allow hatchbacks to operate as transport network vehicle service (TNVS) units.

In a statement, the LTFRB gave assurance that it would be implementing Memorandum Circular (MC) No. 2019-042.

The circular amends Memorandum Circular 2018-005 by virtue of Department Order (DO) 2019-013 which amends DO 2017-011, allowing hatchbacks and subcompacts units to operate as TNVS units.

"Prior to the issuance of the said MC, the Board has already directed its Technical Division to accept TNVS applications including hatchback units that went through the on-line registration process," it added.

Further, the agency claimed that it remains committed to the "mandate of ensuring safe, comfortable and reliable transportation to Filipinos through the implementation of its rules and regulations and the conduct of transparent and accountable service to the public."

Last month, Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Arthur Tugade ordered the Board to follow the order of the Anti-Red Tape Authority (ARTA), provided that substantive completion of documents/requirements are met.
