LTO clarifies e-DL usage

The electronic driver’s license (eDL) can be used as an alternative to the physical driver’s license card but will not replace the be the primary form of authorization to operate a motor vehicle, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) clarified.

To recall, the LTO has launched the eDL system to boost the agency’s digitalization thrust.

According to LTO, drivers who created an account on the Land Transport Management System portal of LTO can now use their e-DL, which will serve as a valid — but not primary — authority, identification, and alternative form of authorization to operate a motor vehicle, subject to the restrictions specified in one’s license.

The eDL, the agency reiterated, cannot be used as a replacement for the physical license card.
