Mazda Philippines has unveiled the turbocharged version of the 2022 CX-5 crossover — which is said to be the most powerful iteration of the nameplate since it was introduced in 2012.
To note, the Japanese marque already has sold three million units of the well-loved sport utility vehicle (SUV) during the 10-year period.
The Japanese automaker’s distributor in the country said in a statement that the 2022 Mazda CX-5 All-Wheel Drive (AWD) Turbo is equipped with the Skyactiv-G 2.5-Liter Turbo engine, which can provide as much as 249hp and 434Nm of torque.
“Ever since its introduction in the Mazda CX-9, the Skyactiv-G 2.5T engine has been the centerpiece of Mazda engineering,” Mazda Philippines President and Chief Executive Officer Steven Tan said.
“This engine represents the pinnacle of power and efficiency for Skyactiv engine technology as it provides smooth, effortless acceleration while being mindful of fuel consumption. With the arrival of the 2022 Mazda CX-5, we took this opportunity to also introduce this engine in the CX-5 range to create a new, more exhilarating experience for our clientele. We trust our customers, who have always come to expect true premium levels of design, build quality, and performance, will discover renewed driving fulfillment and profound satisfaction with the 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo.”
Aside from that, the newest compact crossover from Mazda features notable exterior and interior design elements that contribute that further improve driving experience.
The latest offering sports a new three-dimensional grille and the signature wing design to complement the front and rear bumpers that are flanked with thinner head- and taillamps. The front illumination system comes with Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS) with auto leveling and high beam control, quad LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL).
The 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo sits on 19-inch bright silver wheels.
On the inside, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo welcomes occupants with dark red nappa leather seats, satin chrome accents in the control surfaces, and the black roof and pillar trims.
Drivers of the 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo will also get to enjoy the paddle shifters and the standard windshield-projected Active Driving Display.
Further, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo’s eight-inch Mazda Connect system now has wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity. Apart from that, a wireless phone charging system is now fitted on the newly-launched trim.
Moreover, the 2022 Mazda CX-5 roster have been an extensive suite of i-Activsense safety technologies that include Mazda Radar cruise control, lane-keep assist with lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, smart brake support, and driver attention alert.
The 2022 Mazda CX-5 AWD Turbo, which serve as the nameplate's top variant, will be priced at P2.38 million.
Meanwhile, Mazda Philippines noted that the that the current CX-5 AWD Sport is retailed at P1.99 million and the CX-5 FWD Sport, P1.89 million. The colors for the 2022 Mazda CX-5 are the following:
