BYD Cars PH delivers 1-2 punch with all-new Atto 2, refreshed Seal 5 DM-i

MANILA: BYD Cars Philippines, under the stewardship of ACMobility, delivered a one-two punch in the form of the all-new Atto 2 and the refreshed Seal 5 DM-i. 

The newest models to come out of the Chinese carmaker’s local stable allow the new-energy auto firm to once again strengthen its foothold in the country’s electrified car market.

BYD Atto 2

Previewed at the recently held Manila International Auto Show, the all-new BYD Atto 2 is offered in either a fully electric or hybrid format. 

Emissions-free enthusiasts can get the electric vehicle (EV) variant with a single electric motor powered by a 41.1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) battery. With power sent to the front wheel axle, it delivers some 174 horsepower (hp) and 290 Newton-meters (Nm) of torque with a range of 380 kilometers (km) on a single charge. 

Meanwhile, the BYD Atto 2 DM-i uses a familiar setup comprised of a 1.5-liter gasoline engine and a single electric motor. This version of the model gets a smaller battery rated at 7.9 kWh and is able to put out 162 hp and 300 Nm with an all-electric range of 45 km (1,045 km combined). 

Notable features include LED illumination, power-folding side mirrors (EV), and 16-inch (EV) or 17-inch (DM-i) wheels. The cabin also comes with leather upholstery, automatic climate control, an 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster, and a 12.8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a six-speaker sound system. 

Its suite of safety features includes a 360-degree view camera with see-through mode, adaptive cruise control, front collision warning, intelligent speed limit information, and high beam assist. 

The BYD Atto 2 will set car buyers back some P1.338 million for the EV variant. Meanwhile, the hybrid model is priced from P1.048 million to P1.258 million. 

BYD Seal 5 DM-i

BYD Cars Philippines has updated the Seal 5 DM-i. Of the major differences between the incoming and outgoing models is that the former now packs an improved powertrain that dishes out 161 hp and 210 Nm with an all-electric range of 55 km and a combined range of up to 1,600 km.

Other changes include a new grillework, a higher clearance at 1,515 millimeters, arguably brought by a new set of tires (Sailun E-Range Performance). Other exterior appointments include LED lighting and a set of 16-inch wheels wrapped in the abovementioned rubber. 

Those sitting inside are treated to leather-upholstered seats, soft-touch panels, and an automatic climate control system. They will also enjoy the car’s 8.8-inch digital gauge cluster and 10.1-inch head unit with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity. 

Safety-wise, it gets cruise control, tire-pressure monitoring, vehicle dynamic control, hill-hold control, traction control, auto-hold, controlled deceleration for parking brake, and a brake priority system. 

It stickers from P948,000 to P1.048 million.
