Byung Goo Ko to assume Hyundai Motor PH top post next week

MANILA: Byung Goo Ko will succeed Jiho Son as the next Hyundai Motor Philippines (HMPH) starting July 27.

In a statement, the Korean marque’s local subsidiary shared that Ko brings with him his wealth of experience as he previously served as Team Leader of the India and Middle East Business Team at Hyundai Motor Company. No additional details about his appointment were disclosed as of publication.

Ahead of the expected leadership transition, HMPH thanked Son for his service since assuming office in October 2024. 

It was during his tenure that the firm bolstered its electrified lineup with the introduction of the following:

• Kona Hybrid
• Elantra Hybrid
• Palisade Hybrid

Son also oversaw the expansion of Hyundai's dealership network and advanced the rollout of the brand's Global Dealership Space Identity (GDSI) across the country.

"As HMPH enters this new chapter, the brand remains steadfast in its commitment to innovating the car ownership experience and providing mobility solutions for all Filipinos nationwide," HMPH Managing Director Cecil Caesar Capacete said in the statement.

"Together with its dealer partners, customers, and stakeholders, HMPH looks forward to building on its momentum and pursuing new opportunities in the years ahead," he added. 

Ko will become HMPH's third president since the Hyundai brand was relaunched in the Philippines in mid-2022. Dongwook Lee served as the company's first president.
