McLaren Teams Up with OnePlus to Create OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition Handset

The McLaren Group, the British conglomerate that's behind supercar manufacturer McLaren Automotive and Formula 1 outfit McLaren Racing, has teamed up with smartphone manufacturer OnePlus to create "the superfast, ultrapowerful" OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition handset.

"The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition is a combination of speed, technology, and beauty," McLaren said in a statement. "Inspired by the desire to constantly challenge existing standards, OnePlus and McLaren have introduced intricate design with a powerful and versatile experience."

Just like how McLaren's road cars and race cars are renowned for their speed, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition takes a page off of the company's play book with the Warp Charge 30, OnePlus' new charging standard. According to OnePlus, Warp Charge 30 takes fast charging to new heights, offering a day's power in just 20 minutes. Thanks to new Integrated Circuits in both the charger and the phone, as well as finely-tuned power management software, 30 watts of power flow to the handset without slowing down even when the device is being used, or generating excessive heat.

Even when in use, whether it's for high-end gaming, shooting video in 4K at 60 fps, photo-editing or switching between apps rapidly, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition doesn't slow down thanks to its 10 GB of RM.

So that you don't forget that you're using a McLaren-branded smartphone, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition has numerous design touches from the brand.

Papaya Orange, McLaren's signature color, races around the bottom edge of the device before fading into the black. The pattern underneath the glass back of the phone is based on McLaren's ground-breaking carbon fiber, the technology at the heart of all McLaren cars since 1981 when it was introduced to the Formula 1 car design before being integrated into all McLaren road cars in 1993. While light streaks across the McLaren logo, illuminating and disappearing in an instant.

Even simply unboxing the phone, the emphasis on the McLaren brand is undeniable. Encased in the box is McLaren's Speedmark logo, recreated in F1 AA-grade carbon fiber--the same material used in the iconic McLaren F1 and which it has used in all its cars since. Also included in the box is a book that celebrates the history of both companies, and in the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition itself, people can enjoy the exclusive software animations, tuned to McLaren’s unique style and history. And then of course, the Warp Charge 30 power unit includes a Papaya Orange-braided cord cable.

The OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition will be available in Western Europe and North America by December 13, with availability in India, China and the Nordic region soon after, at a price of GBP649 (nearly PHP43,000).
