NLEX to complete Bulacan bridge rehab ahead of schedule
The NLEX Corporation is keen on reaching the substantial completion of Bulacan bridges along the North Luzon Expressway, particularly the Meycauayan and Bigaa bridges come August 16 — one month ahead of its original target date.
NLEX Corporation President and General Manager J. Luigi Bautista said that the tollway company and its contractor have found new ways to “speed up the work and complete the project for the benefit of the public.”
“We have reached a significant breakthrough in our discussions with our contractor so we can finish ahead of schedule and provide motorists with safer and more convenient travel before the ‘ber’ months begin. Barring any unforeseen events, the accelerated completion date of Bigaa Bridge is August 11 (instead of August 31), and the substantial completion date for Meycauayan is August 16 (instead of September 15),” Bautista noted.
Following the announcement, the NLEX Corporation said that the restoration work for the northbound side of the Meycauayan Bridge started Sunday (July 18), after its southbound lane was finished. The northbound lane of Bigaa Bridge, on the other hand, is still under repair.
To help motorists, new traffic management measures were implemented such as opening of counterflow lanes at the Meycauayan Bridge, deployment of more patrol crews, as well as seeking the assistance of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) to temporarily open the two-lane service road in Meycauayan as detour for light vehicles.
“We are thankful to our partners in DPWH for allowing us to use the service road for light vehicles so we can maintain four lanes in each direction to ease congestion and serve motorists better,” the tollway operator president was quoted as saying.
Back in April, the NLEX Corporation started the rehabilitation project for the said infrastructures — which involves the replacement of girders and slabs — to fortify the structures and improve their lifespan.
