P500k-fine awaits LTO employees who will not accept PhilID

Employees of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) who will not accept the Philippine Identification (PhilID) card as valid proof of identification are set to be slapped with a P500,000-fine.

    • In a social media post, the agency said that the aforementioned fine follows Section 19 of Republic Act (RA) 11055, which levies the corresponding penalty to LTO employees who will not honor the PhilID or its printed copy.

    Those who will bring a temporary copy must ensure that the QR code of the printed PhilID must be Philippine Statistics Authority-authenticated.

    In July 2021, the LTO released Memorandum Circular No. 2021 – 2272, which states that the PhilID (and its temporary printed versions) is recognized as a valid proof of identification in all LTO branches and can be used on all transactions.
