A shift towards a different direction is on the horizon as the upcoming Jaecoo 7 will likely be offered in a new energy vehicle (NEV) format.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What are the NEV options that Omoda Philippines is looking at for the Jaecoo 7?

The Philippine-bound Jaecoo 7 could arrive as a plug-in hybrid or purely hybrid electric vehicle.
  • What is the rationale for the possible switch?

Omoda Philippines is eyeing to put the Jaecoo brand in the local electric vehicle arena before the expected rise in NEV usage in the country.
  • In an interview, Omoda Philippines Brand Manager John Ezekiel Asuncion shared that instead of bringing in the Jaecoo 7’s internal combustion engine (ICE) version, the company could be bringing in the nameplate’s hybrid or plug-in hybrid version.

“The company’s goal is not just to serve the Philippine market with a full ownership ecosystem, but to ensure that we are already present before the expected rise in NEV usage hits the country,” Asuncion told Carmudi Philippines.

Previously, Omoda Philippines announced that the incoming Jaecoo 7 will be powered by a 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that can deliver 290 Newton-meters of torque — that can do 100 kilometers per hour from standstill in 8.9 seconds. The same mill also has the capacity to do around 13 kilometers per liter of fuel consumption.

    Intelligent cabin technology

Meanwhile, the aforementioned model — to be launched globally within the third quarter of the year — will feature an intelligent cabin that can improve safety and achieve efficient human-vehicle interaction.

The company said that the Jaecoo 7 shall be equipped with an all-road drive intelligent system that enables the vehicle to achieve stable and powerful driving under various road conditions. Specifically, the Jaecoo 7 will be able to provide a safe and worry-free intelligent off-road experience as it will have the capability to adjust the body state according to varying road conditions.

Further, soon-to-arrive Jaecoo 7 will have a windshield head-up display technology with adjustable height/brightness.

Moreover, the sport utility vehicle will come with a Qualcomm 8155 flagship chipset that guarantees smoother and faster vehicle function response in terms of navigation, music playback, and voice control.

The Jaecoo 7 will also have a 14.8-inch screen that can intuitively display information and entertainment content. Other features include a 50-watt wireless charging dock, and 64-color rhythmic ambient lights.

Earlier reports stated that Omoda and Jaecoo Philippines are set for their Philippine debuts by the final quarter of the year.
