Pininfarina to Create its Own Cars as Automobili Pininfarina

Pininfarina, the Italian automotive styling house that designed some of the most iconic Ferrari models like the 250 GT, Testarossa, and F40, to name a few, is the world's newest car brand that plans to design and build "fully-electric, ultra-luxury cars at the pinnacle of design and desirability in their respective segments." To be known as Automobili Pininfarina, the Munich-based company will offer a range of luxurious and high-performance electric cars that will be designed and built in close partnership with Pininfarina SpA, the automotive styling house from which the newly-founded car company got its name. The very first Automobili Pininfarina car is codenamed PF0 and will be an ultra-low volume, ultra-luxurious fully-electric hypercar with an estimated price tag of between USD2 to USD2.5 million. To help Automobili Pininfarina develop the car, it is collaborating with the Mahindra Racing Formula E team. For the uninitiated, Mahindra acquired Pininfarina SpA in 2015 for USD185 million. "Automobili Pininfarina is a pioneering new business created to service the most discerning clients in the world, said Automobili Pininfarina CEO Michael Perschke. "Our product portfolio will launch with an innovative, zero-emissions hypercar that represents the progression we aim to make at the pinnacle of the luxury and sports car market." Automobili Pininfarina expects to present the first customer car "of unmatched performance and unprecedented heritage" in less than two years. "We have attracted some of the best automotive industry talent from all corners of the globe," said Perschke. "Now this team is completely focused on delivering ground-breaking, highly desirable vehicles through a business strategy which will see Automobili Pininfarina become the most sustainable luxury automotive business in the world."
