Solar Jeepneys Now Operating on Alabang-Zapote Route

Commuters going to Zapote from Alabang and vice versa will feel relieved that the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has now deployed additional jeepneys on the route, and they're solar-powered, to boot.

The LTFRB, along with South Metro Transport Cooperative and Star 8 Green Technology Corporation, launched an initial 15 electric units for the route, with plans to add over 100 more.

Aside from being fully electric and running on battery power, the said jeepneys also come with many modern amenities lacking in their traditional diesel-powered counterparts, such as GPS, CCTV, Wi-fi,and automated fare collection systems.

"The seed of the modernization program that we planted is now sprouting," LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra III said at the launch. "Panawagan po sa lahat, wala na pong atrasan ito. Tuloy-tuloy na po."

The solar jeepneys take only 10 hours to fully charge, and can accommodate up to 20 adult passengers. Minimum fare stands at PHP9.

The Alabang-Zapote route currently has a total of 45 drivers and operators under its jurisdiction.
