Tesla Cyberquad ATV to Go on Sale Alongside Cybertruck

Much has been said about the Tesla Cybertruck when it unveiled at the 2019 LA Auto Show, so much so that it eclipsed another Tesla vehicle launch that was right in front of our eyes the whole time, but its discussion was rarely brought to the fore in automotive circles, until now.

“Oh wait! We have uh…we made a, uh, we also made an ATV.”

These were the words that rolled out of Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s tongue at the tail end of the Cybertruck’s big reveal, which is probably was considered by most as an afterthought. Nevertheless, a driver brought out the ATV to the stage and up to the pickup truck’s bed using the tailgate, which doubles as a ramp.

Musk said that his company plans to offer the Cyberquad as an option to the electric pickup truck beginning in 2021. Very little information has been released about the ATV, which is not even listed on the official Tesla website. Musk does mention that the ATV can fit two individuals and that it’s also fully electric like the Cybertruck. The Cyberquad can also be charged on the Cybertruck’s bed.

Wikipedia adds that Tesla trademarked the ‘Cyberquad’ name last November.

“We’ll aim to have it come out same time as truck. Two seater electric ATV designed to work with Cybertruck will be fun! Electric dirt bikes would be cool too. We won’t do road bikes, as too dangerous. I was hit by a truck & almost died on one when I was 17,” went Musk’s tweet announcing his plans for the ATV.

Neither price, performance numbers nor expected range of the Cyberquad ATV has been disclosed.

With three different powertrain options, the Tesla pickup can use up to three electric motors simultaneously. The base truck—a single-motor rear-wheel drive—has a 400-kilometer (km) range and can reach 0-100 kilometers per hour (kph) in under 6.8 seconds. The mid-tier dual-motor version has all-wheel drive, with an acceleration time of 4.7 secs. The range-topping tri-motor can do 0-100 kph in 3 secs, and run for 800 kms on a single charge.

The Cybertruck is set to enter production in late 2021, and the Cyberquad is expected to soon follow.
