Tight race for 3rd place in PH car sales continues in ‘ghost month’
As the rankings for the top 10 automotive brands remain intact as the country concludes the first eight months of 2021, the battle for the third place still remains tight as ever.
Suzuki Philippines (SPH) has held onto the same spot since June this year with its 12,954 vehicles sold against Ford Philippines’ 12,921 units delivered to customers. Last May, the Blue Oval’s local distributor was ahead by 41 units against SPH after the former sold 8,239 units for the first five months of the year.
Toyota Motor Philippines (TMP) keeps the lion’s share of the market with 82,389 units rolled out to customers. Trailing the leading automotive manufacturer is Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation with a 23,912-vehicle sales output.
Nissan Philippines placed fifth after securing a 2,497-lead over Isuzu Philippines Corporation with 11,498 cars sold.
Taking the seventh spot is Honda Cars Philippines Inc. with a sum of 8,043 vehicles handed over to customers while retaining its eighth place is Hyundai Asia Resources Inc., thanks to its 6,720-unit performance.
Sojitz G Auto Philippines (Geely’s local distributor) posted a total of 3,278 units for the full eight-month period that helped the company protect its ninth position. Rounding the top 10 is the Ayala-led KP Motors Corporation (Kia) with 2,379 vehicles turned over to buyers.
With that, the business can expect some movements this month after stopping the implementation of the safeguard bond since last month, vehicle launches were also conducted to welcome the “ber” months—the season of the year where the public usually starts to exercise its buying power again.
