Toyota has unveiled the 2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition, a limited-edition performance model that celebrates the pure fun of sports car driving.

  • What unique features can be found on the 2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition?

According to Toyota, the 2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition will have unique exterior and interior features as well as a new 2.4-liter engine that makes 228 horses and 250Nm of torque.
  • How many 2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition units will be produced?

Per the Japanese carmaker, only 860 units of the 2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition will be made.
  • According to the Japanese carmaker, the 2023 GR86 Special Edition will be built from the GR86 Premium grade. From the outside, it will be finished with a Solar Shift orange paint — exclusive only to this model — and will have unique exterior features such as GR cat-back performance exhaust system with stainless steel pipes, black chrome tips, and debossed GR logo found on the exterior of the 2023 Toyota GR86 Special Edition.

The 2023 Toytota GR86 Special Edition will ride on GR matte-black 18-inch wheels with black center caps and black lug nuts wrapped with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires.

For its interior, the 2023 Toytota GR86 Special Edition adds Ultrasuede/leather-trimmed interior with GR special edition badge accents to the performance-oriented cockpit of the GR86 Premium variant.

The 2023 Toytota GR86 Special Edition does not only boast cosmetic upgrades, instead, but it also comes packed with performance improvements, in particular, the new 2.4-liter engine.

Toyota ensured that the new gasoline mill will deliver more power and more torque than its predecessor. On paper, the new 2.4-liter powerplant makes up to 228 horses — 11 percent more powerful than the first-gen’s 2.0-liter engine — and around 250Nm of almost instantaneous torque.

“Critically, the new engine is tuned so peak torque arrives far earlier in the powerband, at 3,700 RPM, versus 6,600 RPM before. The result is a more responsive and powerful driving experience in all situations,” Toyota said in a press release.

The beefier engine can either be mated to a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. The former zooms from zero to sixty in about 6.1 seconds while the latter speeds from standstill to sixty in about 6.6 seconds.

Customers purchasing the 2023 Toytota GR86 Special Edition will also get a complimentary one-year National Auto Sport Association (NASA) membership as well as one free High Performance Driving Event (HPDE) and discounted admission to NASA-sanctioned events.

Toyota confirms that the 2023 GR86 Special Edition will only be produced in just 860 units.

Pricing and release date for the 2023 Toytota GR86 Special Edition is yet to be confirmed.
