Mitsubishi Triton Review

Mitsubishi Triton Overview
Named after the Greek Sea God, the Mitsubishi Triton is currently making waves in the Philippine market. This vehicle possesses a unique appearance on the road, showing that it is indeed an upgrade from its predecessor, the Strada. It boasts a powerful engine while maintaining a good fuel economy. The Triton is available in seven variants, with the Athlete 4WD AT as its top-of-the-line. Its price ranges from ₱1.152 million to ₱1.992 million. The truck is available in seven colours: Yamabuki Orange Metallic, Blade Silver Metallic, Jet Black Mica, and White Diamond to name a few.

Mitsubishi Triton Interior
While the exterior of the Mitsubishi Triton looks very sporty and rugged, its interior gives off a different vibe. The pickup truck has a classic interior, which exudes a little bit of sophistication. The top variant is equipped with seats that have orange synthetic leather upholstery with black suede inserts, while other higher and mid variants get black high grade fabric with stitching for their seats.
In terms of technology, passengers inside the higher variants can enjoy a 9-inch touchscreen multi-media system that offers hi-tech features such as wireless Apple Carplay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth with hands-free technology. Mid variants have an inch-smaller (8-inch) infotainment system but have the same features. The front row is comfortable and feels premium. However, the second row is slightly cramped, making it a challenge for three passengers to seat comfortably.

Mitsubishi Triton Exterior
From the outside, common to all variants of the Mitsubishi Triton is the unique-looking front fascia, which gives the model an aggressive appearance on the road–fitting for a truck its size. Similar to other Mitsubishi vehicles that were designed using the brand’s DST concept (i.e., the XForce and the Destinator), this truck is also sculpted with a dynamic shield design that showcases the brand’s modern identity and evolution.
In terms of differences, higher variants sport multi-projector LED headlights with an auto-lighting control system and a pair of LED DRLs, while mid and lower variants have the same set of parts but in a halogen material. It is important to note that only the top variant, Athlete, has both front and rear LED fog lights. Some variants have halogen front fog lamps but no rear ones, while lower variants have none totally.
In the front, the Triton’s L-shaped headlights give it a powerful and assertive gaze (with a hint of futuristic), which would truly appeal to younger generation car enthusiasts and pickup truck fanatics in the local scene. Meanwhile, at the rear, the Triton has a pair of T-shaped signature tail lamps that will definitely gain the attention of fellow drivers or even pedestrians while on the go.
In terms of dimensions, the Mitsubishi Triton’s length ranges from 5,265 mm to 5,360 mm. Its width ranges from 1,865 mm to 1,930 mm. Its height ranges from 1,775 mm to 1,815 mm. All variants have a wheelbase of 3,130 mm. In terms of minimum ground clearance, higher and mid variants have 222 mm, while lower variants have 203 mm. Apart from this, the top variant runs on 18-inch black alloy wheels, while the other higher and mid variants run on 18-inch silver alloy wheels. Meanwhile, lower variants are made with 16-inch steel wheels.

Mitsubishi Triton Ride & Handling
The Mitsubishi Triton utilizes an independent wishbone suspension with coil springs at the front, while a rigid suspension with leaf springs at the rear. This vehicle has good off-road capabilities and a relatively comfortable maneuvering. Noise inside the vehicle is minimal. However, engine sounds can still be heard since it is a diesel engine.
-
Mitsubishi Triton Engine & Fuel Consumption
In terms of engine, the top variant, Athlete, is powered by a 2.4L, direct injection diesel engine with two-stage turbo that produces a maximum power output of 204 PS and a maximum torque of 470 Nm. This variant is the only one equipped with seven drive modes, showcasing the adaptability of the newer generation Mitsubishi vehicles.
In contrast, all other variants are powered by a 2.4L, turbocharged direct injection diesel engine that produces a maximum power output of 183 PS and a maximum torque of 430 Nm–still powerful in their own respects.
This will not give you a headache if you choose to use this as a daily vehicle since it has a respectable fuel economy. It is good for city driving and even better for high speed cruising on highways. The Triton offers an exciting powerful ride overall.
-
Mitsubishi Triton Braking & Safety
Like most newer-gen Mitsubishi vehicles, the Triton is also equipped with a long list of safety features. Higher and mid variants are equipped with multiple ADAS such as active stability and traction control, active yaw control designed for slippery roads, assistance for hill start and trailer stability, hill descent control, emergency assist for pedal misapplication, forward collision mitigation system with pedestrian detection, blindspot warning system with lane change assist, rear cross traffic alert, lane departure warning, and auto high beam. A weakness of this model, however, is the lack of adaptive cruise control.
In terms of braking, all variants use ventilated discs at the front, while leading and trailing drums at the rear. This model is equipped with an anti-lock braking system that has electronic brakeforce distribution. It also has brake assist. That said, the Triton offers a great mix of power, comfort, and above all, safety.
-
Mitsubishi Triton Verdict
The Mitsubishi Triton might not have the best set of features and the greatest performance among its rivals but, considering its price, it is actually a practical choice for those who are looking for an adaptable and unique-looking pickup truck that is affordable and accessible to most.
