Driver’s license renewal process for Filipinos living abroad/OFWs

For Filipinos living abroad, renewing a driver's license might seem like too much work, but that’s not the case. OFWs visiting the country or their authorized representative within Metro Manila can renew OFWs driver’s license. While the representative needs to head to LTO District Offices or Licensing Centers and get the renewal application, the OFW, upon arrival, needs to head to the LTO License Section Central/Office.

Step 1: Head to the nearest LTO office

Step 2: Collect the Driver’s License Application Form from the customer service counter along with the requirement checklist and a queue number.

Step 4: At the cashier counter, the representative needs to pay the corresponding fee

Step 5: Collect the Driver’s License Receipt from the Releasing Counter, which will serve as the OFWs temporary Driver’s License

Next, it is the OFWs turn, upon returning to the country, needs to visit the LTO Office (where its representative applied for license renewal) within 30 days after arriving in the country. Upon reaching the LTO office, OFW needs to submit additional requirements, go to the photo-taking and signature area and wait. Once called out, OFW must head to the Releasing Counter and present the Driver’s License Official Receipt to claim the renewed license. Lastly, OFWs will need to fill up the release form.

Driving license renewal process in advance

LTO allows applicants to renew their driver’s license 60 days before the expiry date. However, the same can be done as early as 61 days to 1 year in advance; however, there is a catch. The interested applicant needs to prove that at the time of license expiry, he/she will be out of the country. The process of advance renewal is as follows -

Step 1: Visit any Licensing Centers or District Offices with Driver’s License transactions

Step 2: Collect the Driver’s License Application Form from the customer service counter along with the requirement checklist and a queue number.
