Mitsubishi Xpander Cross Overview
Given the sudden increase in the demand and interest in SUV in recent times, across all segments, there has been a rise of a segment which was unheard till recent times – crossover MPVs. This category of MPVs, which are designed to have visual appeal of SUVs, has seen a considerable amount of interest in the last few years, with major players like Suzuki, Toyota and Honda trying to make the most of it. The latest of them all is Mitsubishi, which has made a crossover version of its smallest MPV yet, the Xpander. Say hello to the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross, which sits right at the top of the lineup of the compact MPV, as its rugged looking version.
Mitsubishi Xpander Cross History
Mitsubishi launched the Xpander compact MPV back in 2017 in a total of four different variants – GLX, GLX Plus, GLS and GLS Sport. All these variants were made available with a standard petrol engine under their hood. After a couple of years, Mitsubishi gave the Xpander its first mild facelift, and with this version, the Japanese car brand replaced the top-spec GLS Sport trim with the Xpander Cross.
The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is nothing but the regular Xpander MPV with few off-road spec garnishes, like body cladding all around, roof rails and skid plates at front and rear, which do successfully manage to add in some rugged visual appeal. It also comes with revised front and rear bumpers with repositioned fog lamps over the standard Xpander.
Mitsubishi Xpander Cross Highlight
The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is available in a single variant, which acts as the range topping variant of the entire Xpander MPV’s lineup in the country. Naturally, this is the best equipped variant of the Xpander MPV, with features like fog lamps, 17-inch machined alloy wheels, LED headlamps with daytime running LEDs, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with reverse camera and navigation and 6 speakers, automatic climate control, multi-functional steering wheel and height adjustable driver’s seat.
The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is marginally bigger than the standard Xpander MPV, with enhancements in length, width and height. However, the wheelbase has been left unchanged over it. The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross shares its 1.5-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with the standard Xpander MPV, which makes 103 PS of maximum power and 141 Nm of maximum torque. A 4-speed automatic gearbox is the only transmission option available for the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross.
Mitsubishi Xpander Cross Safety
Being the range topping variant, the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is packed with best of the safety features for the segment to which it belongs. The rugged looking MPV gets dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and brake assist, active stability control, traction control, hill start assist, ISOFIX mounts for child seats and reverse parking sensors with camera.
Mitsubishi Xpander Cross Fuel Consumption
With a claimed fuel efficiency of 22.94 kmpl in ideal driving conditions, the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross surpasses even most of the smaller hatchbacks available in the market right now, thus making it a very economic vehicle to live with.

Mitsubishi Xpander Cross Pros and Cons
Mitsubishi Xpander Cross Pros
- Rugged and modern design – The perfect combination of sharp lines of the regular Xpander MPV as well as rugged SUV-ish bits do make the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross tough and big.
- Spacious cabin – The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross impresses with its clever space management within the small dimensional area it has been designed. Even the third row of seats offer decent room, which should be good enough for short rides.
- Exceptional fuel efficiency – The 22.94 kmpl of fuel economy which the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross promises is extremely commendable.
Mitsubishi Xpander Cross Cons
- Lack of features – The Mitsubishi Xpander Cross could have had few more prominent and modern features over the regular Xpander, in order to further distinguish it as a more premium offering.
- Lazy automatic gearbox – The 4-speed automatic gearbox with which the engine of the Mitsubishi Xpander Cross is paired is decent for short city runabouts, but feels lazy in high speed driving as well as immediate shifts.
