2018 Batch of Honda Civic Type R Units Now in PH, Much to Speculators’ Chagrin

We’ve got some good news and some bad news about the Honda Civic Type R.

The good news is that the 2018 batch of Honda Civic Type R units for the local market has arrived, Honda Cars Philippines, Inc. (HCPI) has announced. To be more specific, that’s 100 units for 2018–the same number of units that were shipped to the Philippines in 2017. Another bit of good news is that the price for the Civic Type R has only gone up by PHP30,000, pegging the price at PHP2.98 million compared to last year which went for PHP2.95 million. You can even place your order for one now–or two or three if you’d like to speculate on its value going up in the future. The last bit of good news is that for 2018, the Civic Type R is also offered in Polished Metal Metallic, which sets it apart from the Championship White and Rallye Red-clad units sold in 2017.

Now, for the bad news: interested buyers can visit any of the 38 Honda Car dealerships nationwide starting September 1 to see the iconic Japanese hot hatch in the metal, with customer delivery of the units starting on the first week of October.

Still, that’s not so bad if you place your order today since you’ll only be waiting for a couple of months unlike last year’s buyers who had to wait for nearly three months to get their hands on their unit/s.

Other than the new Polished Metal Metallic color, the Honda Civic Type R is still the same as the one sold last year, with its 2.0-liter VTEC turbo engine putting out 306 hp and 400 Nm of torque through a six-speed manual transmission in a bespoke chassis set-up with advanced aerodynamics and technology features.

What owners of the 2018 units can brag about their Civic Type R is that, right out of the showroom, it has the pedigree of numerous records under its belt, having proven itself as the fastest front-wheel-drive production vehicle to date not only on the Nurburgring Nordschleife in Germany but on Spa-Francochamps in Belgium, Silverstone in the United Kingdom, and Estoril in Portugal.

According to HCPI, following the local market’s outstanding reception of the Honda Civic Type R, with the initial shipment of 100 units sold out within 48 hours of the opening of the order books, Honda has decided to make another 100 units available for the Philippine market–perhaps much to the chagrin of the speculators and flippers who bought more than just one Civic Type R when it finally went on sale in July 2017, took delivery of their units from September 2017 onward, and began selling them at marked-up prices which ranged from PHP3.03 million to as much as PHP3.5 million in some Honda Cars dealerships to as much as PHP4.7 million from a speculator.

Anyway, with the availability of the new Civic Type R in the Philippines, interested customers are highly encouraged to reserve now and be one of the exclusive owners of the Honda Civic Type R here in the Philippines.
