2020 Hyundai Tucson Facelift Finds Its Way to Auto Expo 2020

India is finally getting the updated version of the Hyundai Tucson SUV. Widely known as the 2020 Hyundai Tucson Facelift, the model boasts a mid-cycle refresh that gives it an immediately sportier, more aggressive look.

The car is currently on display at the ongoing Auto Expo 2020 in India for all the world to see. If you ask us, we'd certainly welcome this version of the Tucson locally.

Exterior-wise, the new Tucson comes with noticeable albeit minor changes that manage to stick to the brand’s soon-to-be-abandoned Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design language (it has already been replaced with Hyundai’s new Sensuous Sportiness style theme in some models).

The façade gets the biggest changes, with the louver-type grille dropped for a more contemporary mesh design. Chrome accents have also been dropped in favor of blacked-out inflections. Even the standard wheels are decked out in black. Likewise, the dual bumper lighting elements on the old model have also been synergized into one, highlighted by boomerang-shaped LED daytime runners.

As for the mechanicals, they remain the same—a 2.0-liter Nu MPI gasoline variant, as well as a 2.0-liter CRDi e-VGT diesel option. The gas engine does 152 hp and 192 Nm, while the diesel engine dishes out 182 hp and 402 Nm. Transmission options are also the same—a 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic for the lower trims, and an 8-speed automatic for the top-rung diesel CRDI trims.

This new model also has an all-wheel-drive option available. Though we don’t have this option locally—all four Tucson trims sold in the PH are two-wheel-drive—hopefully we soon will, given the new Tucson’s sportier leanings.

On the inside, the Tucson facelift is expected to arrive with enhancements such as a larger 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that evolved from a 7-inch unit. There’s also Hyundai’s Blue Link Connectivity suite, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera.

Though the South Korean company has expressed its commitment to electrification, there’s no word yet from the company on whether the Tucson will get an all-electric version, or at least a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) one.

Auto Expo 2020 runs from February 7 to 12, and is being held at India Exposition Mart Ltd., Greater Noida, India. It is considered to be Asia’s largest motor exhibition, and second largest in the world next to the Frankfurt Motor Show.
