Aston Martin to Race Valkyrie Hypercar in Le Mans 2021

Aston Martin has signed up its Valkyrie hypercar at Le Mans for the 2020/21 Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) World Endurance Championship season.

The British automobile manufacturer announced that it will run at least two factory V12 Valkyries in the inaugural season of a new category where road-based hypercar prototypes will be pitted against each other.

FIA, along with race organizers Automobile Club de L'Ouest, rewrote the rules for the category earlier, with hypercar derivatives now replacing prototypes as the top category beginning the upcoming 2020/21 season.

The announcement coincides with the 60th anniversary of Aston Martin's 1959 Le Mans victory with the DBR1 prototype driven by Roy Salvadori and Carroll Shelby.

The 2020/21 season also marks the 100th anniversary of Aston Martin's Le Mans debut.

The British sports car maker has attempted to replicate its 1959 win numerous times, but failed. With the new Valkyrie, Aston Martin believes it has a decent shot at the 2021 title.
