Audi presents limited-run R8 GT

The United States (US) arm of Audi recently presented the limited-edition R8 GT — dubbed as the brand's most powerful rear-wheel-drive (RWD) to date.

According to the automotive brand, the Audi R8 GT is powered by a 5.2-liter V10 engine mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The Ingolstadt-based brand claims that the powerplant of the Audi R8 GT is “nearly identical” to the R8 LMS racecar engine. This setup is said to make 602 horsepower (hp) and around 600Nm of almost instantaneous torque.

Performance-wise, the R8 GT accelerates from zero to 100 kilometers per hour (kph) in just 3.4 seconds with speed peaking at 320kph.

Other notable features of the Audi R8 GT include exterior appointments including its track-inspired carbon aero kit, which consists of a front splitter, flics, side skirt covers, cW-elements on the sides of the rear bumper, a diffuser, and a rear wing with gooseneck suspension.

Audi said that the aero kit was initially developed in the wind tunnel to improve aerodynamics and increase downforce at the front and rear axle — generating better stability and faster cornering speeds on the track.

The Audi R8 GT rides on lightweight 20-inch 10-spoke milled-cut forged wheels shod in high-performance Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires designed for road and racetrack use.

Inside, highlights found on the Audi R8 GT include an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel, bucket seats finished in leather and Dinamica, a Bang & Olufsen sound system, and an Audi-exclusive diamond stitched headliner with red contrast stitching.

The new Audi R8 GT will start arriving at US dealerships in early 2023. The price starts at US$249,900 (P13.939 million). The R8 GT will be limited to just 333 units worldwide, of which 150 units will be available for the US market.
