Audi Refines the RS5 Coupé and Sportback

The updated Audi RS5 Coupé and Sportback have been unveiled, showing off a few design tweaks that aligns the duo with the recently released A5 Coupé and Liftback.

At the front, the RS5 pair gets a wider and more vertically angled single-frame grille. The front bumper rear diffuser and retooled side sills make up all the standard exterior updates. Futuristic matrix LED headlamps with laser light tech are available as an option, while the wheel arches remain 40mm wider than on the standard A5 models to accommodate your choice of 19-inch or 20-inch wheels. The latter is available in gloss black or matte bronze finish.

Audi also adds two new colors to the RS5’s color palette: Turbo Blue and Tango Red. Optional packages include gloss black, matte aluminum, and carbon-fiber styling, while the coupe model can be equipped with a carbon-fiber roof that reduces overall vehicle weight by 4 kgs.

Inside, horizontal lines and subdued hues radiate from every panel, including the seats, which are upholstered in Alcantara and leather. Buyers have the option to upgrade to more luxurious Nappa leather. As well, the RS design package that gives the choice of red or gray accents is available by request. The steering wheel, shift lever, and kneepads are covered with Alcantara skin with red or gray contrast stitching.

Both the revised 2020 RS5 Coupé and Sportback are powered by the same engine used in the outgoing model, which is a 2.9-liter twin turbo V6 power mill that churns out 444 hp and 600 Nm of torque. An 8-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and Quattro all-wheel drive allows the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 kph in 3.9 secs and cap off at 280 kph top speed.

The new infotainment operating system of the two RS5 models is controlled via a 10.1-inch MMI touch display. The large, free-standing display with acoustic feedback is angled slightly toward the driver for better ergonomics. When the top infotainment system MMI navigation+ is used, a dedicated RS monitor provides the driver with information on longitudinal and lateral acceleration, drive temperature, tire pressure, tire temperature, and the Quattro sport differential.

“The revision of the RS 5 Coupé and RS 5 Sportback marks the successful conclusion of our 25th anniversary and the renewal of our model range,” says Oliver Hoffmann, Managing Director of Audi Sport GmbH. “Thanks to the standard permanent Quattro drive, they occupy a special position in their segment.”

Audi plans to introduce the updated RS5 models first in Germany, then to other parts of Europe later, and then North America soon after.  Both cars have a starting price of USD92,500 (approx. PHP4.5 million).
