Auto Expo 2020 Vehicles We'd Love to See in PH

India’s Auto Expo 2020 is now upon us, and as expected, it’s giving people a glimpse of the exciting car models to expect in the Asian-centric automotive market. With over 40 new cars unveiled, it’s hard to take your pick of which car to go for, and although we’d love to see all of them sold in the PH, Carmudi whittles down the list to seven cars that we can expect to see on our shores soon, if not later.

2020 Maruti Swift Hybrid

The current version of the Suzuki Swift available locally boasts a much-improved look that’s contemporary and stylish in equal measures. So how can the car be improved? With a hybrid version, of course. What makes this car truly special is that it promises to deliver 32 kml. From a car that’s relatively inexpensive, the, 2020 Maruti/Suzuki Swift Hybrid is a car that practically pays for itself. The Swift Hybrid is propelled by a 1.2-liter gasoline engine paired with Suzuki’s own Motor Generator Unit-Electric (MGU-E) system, with shifting provided by a robust 5-speed AMT.

2020 Seltos X-Line Concept

It appears that Kia has big plans for its new crossover. After expanding the Seltos’ production in India, the South Korean car brand now introduces two off-road-focused versions decked with kits and plenty of lights. The gray X-Line Urban Concept comes with orange mirror caps, sideskirts, front skid plate, and gold-accented 17-inch wheels, capped off with a gloss-black roof equipped with four Hella lights. Meanwhile, the beige/orange X-Line Trail Attack Concept raises the bar with all of the Urban Concept’s goodies, plus four more Hella lights at the front bumper, matte black fender flares, and beadlock wheels.

2020 Kia Carnival

Kia follows up the Seltos SUV with the more family-friendly Carnival. From the looks of it, the Kia van enjoys a mild refresh at the front, specifically the bumper area. The fuel lid also changes from circle to square this time around. The 2020 Kia Carnival is available in 7-, 8 and 9-seater configurations, via its three available variants. Power comes from a 2.2-liter gasoline engine that churns out a lively 197 hp and 440 Nm of torque while paired to an 8-speed automatic.

2020 Hyundai Creta

Hyundai PH dropped the Creta line after 2018, but Kia’s sister company may have a reason to bring it back, thanks to the sleekly refurbished second generation. Bearing plenty of similarities to its Chinese version—the ix25—the new look 2020 Hyundai Creta shares powertrain options with the Kia Seltos, and comes with a bucket load of nifty new features including a panoramic sunroof, two-tone paint finish, and connected car tech. It also one of the first models to carry Hyundai’s new Sensuous Sportiness design language.

2020 Hyundai Tucson

No need to fret folks, this is the one car on this list that’s already reached local dealerships, although it’s just making its way to the Indian market for the first time. In terms of design, the facelifted 2020 Hyundai Tucson still sports Hyundai’s recently abandoned Fluidic Sculpture design theme with its signature cascading grille, chiseled front bumper, and angular LED headlamps. The 2020 Hyundai Tucson is available in four trims with two engine configurations to choose from—a 2.0-liter Nu MPI gasoline variant and a 2.0-liter CRDi e-VGT diesel option. The gas engine does 152 hp and 192 Nm, while the diesel engine dishes out 182 hp and 402 Nm.

2020 Maxus G10

This one is set to be rebadged and marketed under MG Motor India, giving the brand its first MPV offering. The 2020 Maxus/MG G10’s biggest selling point is its different seating layouts, with the ability to seat up to 10 passengers. That's enough to give its more established rivals, such as the Toyota Innova and the pricey Honda Mobilio, and a run for their money. The Maxus G10 that we have here packs a 1.9-liter diesel engine that delivers 148 hp and 350 Nm, although it remains to be seen whether the rebadged version comes with the same powertrain specs.

2020 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT 4-door Coupe

The German luxury brand is finally bringing its racing pedigree to PH with the AMG GT 4-door Coupe. Under the hood of this Porsche Panamera Turbo competitor lies a 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8 that shells out 630 hp and 900 Nm—powerful numbers to be sure.

It's worth noting that this list is only wishful thinking on our part. Save for the already available Tucson, we can't confirm that these vehicles will actually be sold here.

Auto Expo 2020 runs from February 7 to 12, and is being held at India Exposition Mart Ltd., Greater Noida, India. It is considered to be Asia’s largest motor exhibition, and second largest in the world next to the Frankfurt Motor Show.
