Auto Expo 2020: Volkswagen Brings Taigun in India, To be Available Next Year
German automotive brand Volkswagen has recently drop the drapes at Auto Expo in India to showcase the compact SUV Taigun.
The Volkswagen Taigun, as predicted by our counterpart from CarDekho, has some similarities as with the China-speced T-Cross.
While it has been revealed, the Indian market will have to wait till 2021 as the Volkswagen Taigun will be available by then.
The Volkswagen Taigun is eyed to compete on the compact SUV race in India against the Hyundai Creta (which was previously available in the Philippines) and the Kia Seltos (readily available in PH).
Back in 2014, the German marque already used the name ‘Taigun’ for a subcompact SUV concept, which was also showcased at the Auto Expo then.
Powering the Volkswagen Taigun is a turbocharged 1.0-litre engine able to deliver 113 horsepower and 200Nm torque. The said engine is available in 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG transmission.
With the Volkswagen group veering away from diesel powertrains in the BS6 rra, the Volkswagen Taigun will also follow the said move.
However, CarDekho reported that the brand is working on bringing a CNG variant to India when the SUV is formally available in the market.
Further, Taigun sports near-production LED headlamps and taillamps and large machine-finished wheels.
On the inside, the Volkswagen Taigun will have a 10.25-inch instrument cluster blending well with the 9.2-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system.
Will the Taigun be brought in the Philippines? Well, let's just hope for the best as both Kia Philippines and Volkswagen Philippines are under the same AC Motors umbrella.
