Bentley announced that is expanding its solar power system in its factory in Crewe, England.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • How many solar panels will Bentley have in Crewe after the photovoltaic panels are installed?

After installation, Bentley will have a total of 36,418 solar panels in its Crewe factory.
  • How much power can Bentley’s solar panels create?

Per Bentley, its solar panels can create a total of 10 megawatts of power.
  • According to the British automotive brand, its number of on-site solar panels will increase to 36,418 after the installation is complete. It will cover an area of 60,911 square meters — equal to the size of nine football pitches (soccer fields) or 311 tennis courts.

Bentley added that the additional state-of-the-art panels are highly efficient and produce nearly 60 percent more power per panel than the original units, which date back to 2013.

Together, all the photovoltaic panels can generate a total of 10 megawatts of power, which translates to 75 percent of the factory’s average electricity daytime demands or the equivalent of the energy needed to power more than 2,370 homes per year.

“The exciting addition of further solar panels at our Crewe headquarters support Bentley’s ongoing commitment to its Beyond100 strategy, to ensure the highest levels of luxury sustainable mobility. It is part of a vision to transform a 103-year-old luxury car company into new, sustainable role model for the entire automotive industry. Beyond100 is the culmination of two decades of innovation and achievement. The transformation across Bentley’s entire operation and product range is gathering pace as we move towards end-to-end carbon neutrality by 2030,” commented Bentley Motors Director of Production Planning Sebastian Benndorf.

Bentley said that the new solar panels are being installed on ten existing roof structures at the plant. The new panels are due to be operational by November, reducing the equivalent carbon dioxide emissions by 407,477 tons per year.

The announcement of the installation of the new solar panels coincides with the 10th anniversary of the company’s first solar panels at its Pyms Lane site.
