Cavitex C5 Link Flyover Extension now open

CAVITEX C5 LINK FLYOVER

The Manila-Cavite Expressway (Cavitex) C5 Link Flyover Extension is now open to motorists.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When was the Cavitex C5 Link Flyover opened?

Cavitex C5 Link Flyover was opened last August 14.
  • How many motorists are expected to benefit from the newly-completed portion?

More than 15,000 motorists going to Taguig from Paranaque and vice versa are expected to benefit from the Cavitex C5 Link Flyover.
  • The latest 1.6-kilometer (km) segment of the road from Merville to E. Rodriguez — which connects to the existing 2.2km flyover bound to C5 Road in Taguig from Merville, Paranaque, and vice versa — was opened last Sunday (August 14, 2022).

MPT South — the toll operator for the aforementioned thoroughfare — considers the opening of the Cavitex C5 Link Flyover Extension “a milestone achievement towards completion of the much-awaited Cavitex C5 Link.”

The opening ceremony held last August 13 was graced by Metro Pacific Investments Corp. (MPIC) Chairman Manny Pangilinan, Department of Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista, Department of Public Works and Highways  Undersecretary for Planning and Public-Private Partnerships Maria Catalina Cabral together with MPTC Executives, MPTC President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rodrigo Franco, and MPT South President and General Manager, Raul Ignacio, as well as MPIC Head of Government Relations and Public Affairs and Head of MVP Group Media Bureau, Atty. Mike Toledo.

Among the esteemed guests during the event are Senator Mark Villar, Congressman Edwin Olivarez and Mayor Eric Olivarez of Paranaque City, Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano of Pasay City.

Following the opening of the Cavitex C5 Link Flyover extension, a new traffic scheme will be implemented when entering the expressway from Merville. According to MPT South, vehicles from Paranaque going to Taguig shall pass into the new C5 Link Flyover Merville entry located in front of Shell C5 Southlink, Brgy. Moonwalk, Paranaque.

"More than 15,000 motorists going to Taguig from Paranaque and vice versa are expected to benefit with this new segment of Cavitex C5 Link. We urge everyone to utilize Easytrip RFID to avoid the long line at the cash lane and maximize the benefit of shorter travel time," Ignacio said.

Motorists can have their Eastrip RFID installed for free — they only need to pay an initial load of P200.

Here is the approved provisional toll, for the extended Cavitex C5 Link: P37 for Class 1 vehicles; P74 for Class 2; and P112 for Class 3. However, the firm said that the implementation will be deferred for September as a sign of goodwill to motorists.

“We encourage motorists to use the Cavitex C5 Link flyover extension while it still has no additional charge, for them to enjoy the added benefit," Ignacio added.

Relatedly, the construction for Segment 2 of Cavitex C5 Link — which will interlink other segments to Cavitex R-1 Expressway in Paranaque, is already 30-percent complete. Once connected, the portion will help shorten travel time from Cavite to Sucat and decongest local roads such as Sucat Road and Quirino Avenue.

More than 50,000 motorists would benefit from the whole Cavitex C5 Link, which is expected to be finished in 2023.
