Check out the Centodieci, Bugatti's Most Powerful Creation Yet

Bugatti went to Pebble Beach, California this week to remove the covers off its latest supercar, the Bugatti Centodieci. Paying homage to the Bugatti EB110 from the 1990s, the car is also a commemorative edition of sorts as the company celebrates its 110th birthday.

At 1,600 hp, the Centodieci is Bugatti's most powerful supercar yet, powered by an 8.0-liter W16 engine that can make the dash from 0-100 kph in 2.4 seconds. Top speed is limited to 380 kph.

"With the Centodieci, we pay homage to the EB110 super sports car which was built in the 1990s and is very much a part of our tradition-steeped history," Bugatti President Stephan Winkelmann mentions in a press release. "With the EB110, Bugatti catapulted itself to the top of the automotive world once again after 1956 with a new model."

“We are proud of our long Bugatti history, of which the EB110 is very much a part. That’s why we're celebrating a reinterpretation of this extraordinary vehicle with the Centodieci--Italian for 110," Winkelmann added.

Designing the car presented an immense hurdle to Achim Anscheidt, Head Designer at Bugatti. "The challenge was not to allow oneself to be captivated too much by the design of the historic vehicle and work solely in retrospect, but instead to create a modern interpretation of the shape and technology of that time," he said.

Only 10 Centodiecis are scheduled for production, and all of them already have their owners. Each one costs USD8.8 million, which amounts to PHP460.6 million.

"We faced a number of technical challenges in terms of the development and design of the Centodieci," says Anscheidt. "The EB110 is a very flat, wedge-shaped and graphically quasi two-dimensional super sports car of the late 1980s. Transporting this classic look into the new millennium without copying it was technically complex, to say the least. We had to create a new way of combining the complex aerothermal requirements of the underlying Chiron technology with a completely different aesthetic appearance."

The Centodieci is lighter than the Chiron by about 20 kg, thanks to generous use of carbon fiber. Even the windshield wipers and stabilizers are made of it. The car manages a power-to-weight ratio of just 1.1 kg per hp, as well as 90.7 kgs of downforce that allows it to hug tight corners with grip and finesse.

As it is inspired by the EB110, the Centodieci's design echoes the former's signature features, including five circular intakes, the wedge-shaped front fascia, and narrow headlamps. The LED headlamps, in particular, are an all-new design, made to further evoke the previous car's essence.

"We took into account what the Divo customer wants to digest as another few-off project, what kind of price point is digested, and how many clients we would have for that price point. We need to create a balance between one-off, few-off, and 40-off models to avoid upsetting customers left and right," Anscheid said in an interview.
