Chevrolet is set to launch the 2023 Colorado early next year. Before that happens, the American automotive brand reveals what customers can expect from the popular pickup truck model.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
How many variants will the 2023 Chevy Colorado have?
According to Chevrolet, the 2023 Colorado will be made available in five variants: Work Truck (WT), LT, Z71, ZR2, and the nameplate’s first-ever Trail Boss model. What will power the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado?
Per Chevrolet, the 2023 Colorado will be powered by three new engines: the standard 2.7-liter Turbo, the 2.7-liter Turbo Plus, and the 2.7-liter Turbo High-Output. All are mated to a second-generation eight-speed automatic transmission.“The all-new Colorado is enhanced in every way. With its rugged and sporty styling, enhanced capability, new technology, and customization options, it’s designed to do more for discerning customers and still offer them great value,” Chevrolet Global Vice President Scott Bell said.
Five variants are confirmed for the US-spec 2023 Chevrolet Colorado. These include the Work Truck (WT), LT, Z71, ZR2, and the nameplate’s first-ever Trail Boss model.
All five variants will be powered by a suite of new 2.7-liter turbo engines with maximum power outputs ranging from 237 to 310 horses. Customers can choose from the standard 2.7-liter Turbo, the 2.7-liter Turbo Plus, and the 2.7-liter Turbo High-Output, which will be mated to a second-generation eight-speed automatic transmission.
The 2023 Chevrolet Colorado also has the right set of hardware to translate the power and capabilities it has under the hood. All models, explained Chevrolet, are built on a new chassis that gives the 2023 Colorado a 3.1-inch-longer wheelbase than the current Crew Cab/short box model. A shortened front overhang also contributes to a more aggressive stance and significantly improves the truck’s approach angle.
For the Trail Boss variant, Chevrolet added a two-inch lifted suspension and wide chassis that produces more ground clearance and a three-inch wider front track than WT and LT for enhanced off-road driving capability. The range-topping ZR2, on the other hand, gets a high-performance three-inch lifted suspension and upgraded Multimatic DSSV dampers.
“The new Colorado is a lifestyle enabler. Because outdoor activities are a big part of our Colorado customers’ lifestyles, we’ve made the truck even more capable to support them — from increased bed functionality to comprehensive performance enhancements that help take them farther,” said Chevrolet Vehicle Chief Engineer Nicholas Katcherian.
To support the new Colorado’s increased power, off-road, and trailering capabilities, Chevrolet is offering up to five selectable drive modes — depending on the model. These include Normal, Tow/Haul, Off-Road, Terrain, and Baja.
Additionally, Chevy equipped the 2023 Colorado with enhanced driver awareness technologies including Forward Collision Alert, Automatic Emergency Braking, Front Pedestrian Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, Following Distance Indicator, and IntelliBeam automatic high-beam assist.
Furthermore, optional add-ons like Blind Zone Steering Assist, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, HD Surround Vision, and Rear Pedestrian Alert, are available for all models.
And while we’re still on the topic of technology, the 2023 Chevrolet Colorado features a new customizable and configurable 11.3-inch-diagonal infotainment screen that has a higher resolution than previous models.
Would-be owners can also enjoy features like the Off-Road Performance Display, Hitch Guidance, Hitch View, and Chevy’s Trailering App.
Production for the US-spec 2023 Chevrolet Colorado begins in the first half of 2023 at General Motors’ Wentzville, Missouri, assembly facility. Pricing and additional details will be released closer to the start of production.
