DPWH Deploys Service Vehicles for Returning Marawi Residents

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) have deployed 19 of its service vehicles to assist the returning residents of Marawi City who have been driven out of their homes for more than five months because of the fighting between terrorist forces and the government troops.

Using its vehicles from its District Engineering Offices in Lanao del Norte and Misamis Oriental, the DPWH have so far helped transport 254 individuals to their residences in Barangay Loksa Datu, Barrio Green, Poblacion, East Basak, Matampay and Tampilong. Furthermore, the DPWH will continue to assist all evacuees who fled their homes in Marawi City and sought temporary shelter in Iligan City and neighboring towns.

Based on the list provided by the City Government of Marawi, a total of 4,724 households or 23,859 individuals were expected to return to nine barangays over the weekend.

Beyond assisting the evacuees to return to their homes, the DPWH is now fast-tracking construction activities in Sagonsongan, Marawi City where transitional shelters for evacuees will rise. Also in progress is the assessment to begin the repair of damaged public buildings, roads, and bridges for the rehabilitation of Marawi City.
