Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge to be Closed Starting January 19

The closure of the Estrella-Pantaleon bridge has once again moved to a later date. Previously, it was reported that the two-year reconstruction and closure of the bridge will be tomorrow, January 12. Now, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced that the Estrella-Pantaleon bridge will be closed to traffic starting January 19, 2019. The total bridge closure will allow project contractor China Road and Bridge Corporation to construct a new 506 lineal meters bridge structure. The bridge will be widened from two lanes to four lanes. DPWH added that the bridge will also have a three-meter sidewalk on both sides. In addition, roads on both ends of Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge will be widened to accommodate added volume of traffic in the area, according to DPWH. The P1.47 billion reconstruction of the Estrella-Pantaleon bridge will be completed in 2021. The project is under the China Grant financing, and the construction was originally set to start last September 2018. However, it was moved into a later date to give way for the holiday season traffic. DPWH said in a statement that the widening of Estrella-Pantaleon Bridge is “one of the priority bridge projects” of the DPWH and Undersecretary for Unified Project Management Office Roads Management Cluster 1 to alleviate traffic congestion by improving the capacity and efficiency of existing road transport network in Metro Manila. DPWH added that the project is expected to decrease traffic congestion at Makati-Mandaluyong Bridge by up to 3,360 vehicles per day and at Guadalupe Bridge by up to 4,474 vehicles per day. The Estrella-Pantaleon bridge connects Makati City at Estrella Street and Mandaluyong City at Barangka Drive.
