MANILA: Ford Philippines recalled select versions of its well-known nameplates from the 2000s and 2010s.
According to the American car brand’s local arm, the move is tied to faulty Takata airbags, an issue that has affected numerous automakers worldwide for more than two decades.
On Ford Philippines recall-dedicated page the company explained that the Takata airbag systems could have defective inflators. These tend to go bad due to degraded propellant material, which Ford stated, is the result of high temperatures and humidity.
These deteriorating factors are common characteristics of the Philippine weather.
Further, the firm noted in its website that the degraded propellant inside the inflator can also cause ruptures. The said ruptures may be able to send inflator parts flying “towards vehicle occupants,” causing serious injury of even death.
