KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • When did the improved Grabcar service start?

Grabcar's faster booking confirmations began this month.
  • Where did Grab attribute the improved service?

The faster service feature was attributed to the growing fleet of driver-partners on the platform.
  • The company said that starting this month, commuters can experience confirmations now happen twice as fast compared to the last quarter of 2022.

In a statement, Grab Philippines said that the gradual and continued improvement in GrabCar’s booking reliability can be attributed to the growing fleet of driver-partners on the Grab platform. The mobile app giant explained that the ride availability for passengers increases as more transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers secure slots — bolstering its mission to provide every Filipino commuter with a seamless and dependable mobility experience.

Early this year, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) opened additional TNVS slots, starting with 4,000 openings in January followed by another 10,300 more.

    Ronald Roda Sr.

“We commend the LTFRB for their unwavering support of the TNVS industry. At Grab, we consistently advocate for a steady increase in TNVS slots to address the demand-supply gap that arose during the pandemic. With the opening up of more TNVS franchise slots, Grab and other players can better meet the mobility demand of the commuting public,” Grab Philippines Senior Director Operations Ronald Roda was quoted as saying.

Further, he also acknowledged the LTFRB’s initiatives to adopt a supportive environment for the TNVS industry.

“More slots mean more livelihood opportunities for Filipino driver-partners, and reduced waiting time for passengers. As we enter a high-volume holiday season, we hope for a substantial growth in franchise slots in the second half of the year. This progress will empower us to deliver unparalleled reliability and cater to the fast-rising demand for seamless ride-hailing services,” Roda noted.

Relatedly, the firm extended its carpooling service to more cities in the National Capital Region since March 2023. Per Grab, it is now available in Mandaluyong, Pasig, San Juan, Pateros, and select areas in Paranaque and Quezon City. To note, the service’s pilot run that began last year covered Makati, Bonifacio Global City, Manila and select areas in Ortigas.
