Marilao Bridge gets hit by truck, to undergo repair anew

Marilao Bridge

The tollway operator of the North Luzon Expressway will temporarily stop the toll collections anew in the areas that will be affected by the latest Marilao Bridge repair.

KEY TAKEAWAYS

  • What areas in the North Luzon Expressway will have temporary toll relief?

The areas that will suspend toll fee collection will be for the expressway's northbound portion from Balintawak to Meycauayan.
  • When will the toll relief take effect?

The toll collection suspension will be on tomorrow (June 22) 1 a.m. up until 12 midnight.
  • The announcement from the NLEX Corporation was made after the Department of Transportation (DOTr) ordered it to suspend collecting tolls in the expressway’s Marilao northbound portion until all four lanes are passable.

Last June 19, a container truck hit the said bridge that resulted in the death of an individual and injured passengers (including a two-year-old infant) who were hit by the bridge girder.

Further, it also noted that traffic management measures will be rolled out to reduce inconvenience to motorists using the said thoroughfare as the firm expedites repairs.

Relatedly, the NLEX Corporation has been also directed to extend the necessary assistance to those affected by the mishap and was required to explain “the seemingly lack of oversight after a similar incident happened barely three months ago.”

In a statement, the firm noted that the Marilao Overpass Bridge is part of Bulacan’s road network and added that the structure was created prior to the NLEX rehabilitation.

At present, the said portion of the road has a 4.27-meter vertical clearance.

Lastly, the NLEX Corporation offers to construct a new and upgraded bridge to support the plans of both the national and local government agencies.
