Mazda Is Now 100 Years Old

Mazda Motor Corporation celebrated its 100th anniversary last January 30, marking the occasion by holding a huge event for its stakeholders and employees at its Hiroshima headquarters.

The Japanese car brand responsible for SkyActiv technology held a ceremony to commemorate the 100th anniversary of its foundation at an auditorium within its headquarters to express appreciation to those who have supported the company and reaffirmed resolution for the next one hundred years of future.

The centennial event serves to remind Mazda’s people about the company’s storied past and encourages them to look ahead to the future. Approximately 500 people including executives, employees and representatives of workers’ union and affiliated companies attended the ceremony.

The company also plans to extend the celebration at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show in March, promising an extravaganza of anniversary-themed displays for its staunchest fans and supporters. Mazda also intends to use its presence at the prestigious Swiss motoring event to celebrate half-a century in Europe.

“Mazda originated as a company producing cork and then took the path to manufacturing automobiles,” went the centenary official comment by Mazda’s Representative Director, President and CEO Akira Marumoto. “Now, our cars have found friends with many customers from over 130 countries and regions. We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the customers, dealers, suppliers, business partners and the local community, who have supported us over the years through good and bad times, to whom we owe our 100 years of existence.”

"As we look ahead to the next 100 years, we will continue to put people first and cherish our ‘uniqueness of co-creating with others.’ As we strengthen co-creation and cooperation with all those connected with the company, we will continue to challenge ourselves to create unique products, technologies, and experiences that our customers love,” Marumoto expressed his gratitude further.

Mazda is off to a great start for 2020, beginning with a lovely new version of long-time favorite Miata MX-5, and the strides it’s making in the world of motorsports with Mazda Team Joest.

Mazda's 100th year Celebrations culminate in May, when the company holds Mazda Open Day 2020, also at its Hiroshima headquarters.
